Supreme Ownage

Chris Taylor, the man responsible for Total Annihilation (which I still consider the best RTS ever created) has a new project.

It's even worth going to Gamespy just to drool over it. Trust me on this. If he can pull this off...SC will never automatically mean Starcraft again.

Even an update of TA to modern production values would have sufficed, but Supreme Commander as a project looks to take what was best about TA - how much it really felt like you were commanding a battle, from the realistic physics and 3D terrain and combat, down to the management tools like unlimited-length build queues and relatively incredible unit AI - and make it even better.

Being able both to plan out fleet and army-scale manuevers, then having the chance to zoom in and manage tactics at each level of scale in the battle of your choice. Or even just to watch the lasers, plasma, and debris fly from massive weapon platforms, and watch the massed armies of your side rolling off the transports. It sounds utterly dreamy. One thing I wonder, though, is if the player will be overwhelmed in the process of running such a large-scale war real-time. It is absolutely necessary for there to be a competent AI to take some of the load off the player. TA did a decent job of this, SC will need to do an even better one.

I really should dig up my copy again. I'm way overdue for my summer TA obsession to start up, and now that I finally got all the maps that came with CC...yum.

Gunships can still own, I've noticed - you just have to worry a hell of a lot more about flak. Especially when you're Arm, and your gunships tend to explode prettily upon being shot down.

Apparently, sometime in 2006? Though I'm betting more on sometime in 2007.

Joy. :)

I want. Now. More than I've ever wanted any other game, including HalfLife2.

Do not deny my power.

Really, we should play. :D And, on a side note, has anyone else gotten back to you about VC 2005?

Just you and Cunningham. As expected, Tommy's bitching about the lack of LANning.

So I think it just might end up being just the three of us, which is pretty much fine by me anyway :)
