"With this ring, I thee wed."

So I have a stepdad.

Before today happened, I jokingly compared the plans to Bilbo's Leaving Party. My joke turned out to be surprisingly accurate. All of my mom's best friends turned out - and she was a pretty popular lady, at that, so the house was packed. A good many people that I hadn't seen in ages, at that, and it was great to catch them. Especially Auntie Caroline (as usual, not really my aunt, though stepdad's nun sister came from LA for the wedding. So we do have one visiting.))

Anyway, Caroline was, like, my mother's best friend, and moved away to Dallas about ten years ago - they hadn't seen each other since. Not only that, but the visit came s a complete surprise - we all thought she was just sending us some traditional outfits to wear, but it turned out she was bringing them. It was a good thing she didn't arrive until after the ceremony, or my mother might have fainted. :) Even as it was, she was choked up. I was so touched to see here there - she looked so happy all day.

It got really hot and loud after that, as we were all inside the house to escape from the sun, and people kept leaving the screen doors open and letting flies into the house (some of which remain alive and bothering me as I type this) , so I was bouncing back and forth between my room (the only place in the house that was cool), and the party. Staying for longer and longer in my room as the day went on. I was out for the speeches and toasts, though, and gave a speech that had the whole crowd laughing. *grins* But soon enough after that things started breaking up. Though people were here as late as 8pm, I withdrew up here to see who was around, and then played World of Warcraft for most of the rest of the evening (barring one really messy system crash due to overheating. But I've cleaned up the airflow and I should be fine.).

Really, it was a good party, and a suitable last hurrah. Now we need to start packing and divvying up stuff...and I need to focus on finding a pair of roomies, since at this stage, it doesn't look like I'm being moved to the basement after all, and so I need to fill in the whole house. I've a couple of people interested, and I'd like either or both of them, but there're no commitments yet. A shame. It would be grand to seal this all up in one swell foop.

-D.
