A Lull In The Madness

Well, exams are finally over. Really, they ended Monday, but I've been out of the loop. At the time, I was actually generally pleased - I'd thought I'd done pretty well...except, of course, on Calc and Number Theory, which, in addition to being the exams I needed most to do well on, were the ones I did worst on just from my internal sense of my own competence.

And I thought I worked well under pressure. Bah! This is my second D of three Calculus courses. You'd think I'd learn at some point that it's simply not my forte.

But aside from that, even Networking, which I thought I'd done well on when I came out, apparently earned me a hideous grade for the final. I did well enough during the year to pass, though.

(ETA: I got a B- in Networking, like I did in Psych. WTF? I was expecting worse.)

On the bright side...or, at least, the "not-yet-proven-dark" side, Monday's Set Theory exam went excellently.

ETA: But I still ended up with a C+, just like I got in Number Theory. Can't say I'm surprised, really. Set Theory had a good final and a shitty midterm, Number Theory had a good midterm and a shitty final. Blehh. I need to see a student advisor in the new term, to see if and how I can still get out this year. My own calculations say I can, but I'll need straight As on next term's math courses.

It is a measure of my fall that this is actually a worry as opposed to a certainty.

Really, there is good news. I went to see Chronicles of Narnia on Tuesday, which was such a delightful movie it really deserves its own entry to write about it. I really hope to get that done before I leave on Monday...that trip being the foremost of my good news. :D

I've also managed to finally find my copy of Baldur's Gate 2, and, after spending five hours last night finding and downloading all the mods I remembered and loved (along with some I never managed to try), I'm diving right back into some old school CRPGing in what I still believe is the best example of its genre I've ever played.

And, while I was writing this, I got my LSAT score back in my email....168 out of a possible 180, a score in the 97th percentile. *glee!* I suppose this counts as sufficient ownage of the admission exam to have a realistic chance of getting somewhere even with my hideous transcript. Which means that I have to start looking into making applications for after I graduate. That answer I wanted...I guess there it is.

All right, I need to run. Want to make the bank before it closes until January.

Talk to you all later!

Congrats, C. A 168 is something to be very proud of.

And as for your marks, look on the bright side: if you can't get out this year, we can take a class together next fall (or in the summer)!

*squee!* That didn't take long, for the LSATs.

And hey, at least you didn't fail anything. My roommate got two F's this semester. :(

Ooo BG2, I was actually thinking of starting up that again today, I didn't get around to it though. Too much programming that I need to get done in the next little while to justify a couple hundred hours on yet another run through the BG series (lost count a long time ago).

And speaking of mods for BG2, which ones would you recommend? I wouldn't mind having a different experience next time through. That Ancension mod was kinda neat, but the final fight was still farrr too easy, despite your horror stories (then again, the wrath of a wild mage is not to be underestimated).

Re: BG2
Knowing exactly what kind of psycho you are, I would recommend the Tactics Mod (improves the AI for tons and tons of fights, including SOA Irenicus and Bodhi, Sahuagin City, and even D'Arnise Keep, along with adding a bunch of new encounters so insanely difficult that Wes Weimer is routinely cursed within the BG community to this very day), along with the Spell-50 mod, which removes the level cap for a bunch of spells, letting, for example, Fireball do 50d6 damage (save for half!) if cast by a 50th level mage.

Really, most of the mods from WeiDU, The Pocket Plane, and The Gibberlings Three are recommended. Especially the G3 Divine Remix (implements cleric spell spheres and cleric kits for several other gods), and the WeiDU Ease-Of-Use, Pocket Plane Unfinished Business, and G3 Tweak Pack and Oversight mods, which implement a lot of convenience and story features left out of the release.

Congrats! I knew you'd do awesome on you LSAT! Maybe I should mail you your study charm for next term's exams...

And since I"m 10 minutes in to Christmas already, I'll take the opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
