Three Impossible Things Before Breakfast

Three Impossible Things Before Breakfast

Endure,
With every turn, calamity
And every moment, disaster.

Forget,
With every move, a memory
And every thought, a talisman.

Transcend,
With every love to inspire me,
And every loss, a lesson.

So I had my first poetry class on Monday. It's a pretty interesting group of people, all told, including a doctor undergoing a midlife crisis, a high-school dropout clawing her way back into academia, and several others that could have been picked out by Central Casting. It will be interesting to see what they write.

I think I fell asleep towards the end of the lecture (three hour classes FTL), but it's more of a seminar than a traditional lecture, so I don't expect that to happen often. And hopefully those maddening flies will have cleared out of the lounge (the class meets in a staff lounge on the fourth floor of the Humanities building, with a lovely and inspiring view) by next Monday when we come back. It took all my self control not to climb out of my chair and swat them with my notebook, whoever else was talking be damned.

After class I went to meet megami_no_ushi for tea, and we talked about her trip to Japan, its aftermath, and our possible futures in the diplomatic service. It's an intriguing image, to be sure, and really one of the two careers I can honestly claim to have as a goal. She also gave me one of the exam charms she bought at Mount Fuji last December. Considering that I got a 97th-percentile result on that exam with the thing an ocean away, I wonder what it'll do for me now that I'm carrying it. :D

I finally gave in and ordered myself a new mouse along with some of my remaining textbooks today. (The others are waiting until my loan cheque comes in, which should also be in the next week or two.) As I predicted back in February, I ordered an extra 512MB of RAM along with it, and also one other little item that I'd been convinced to acquire. They should all be here by this weekend or early next week.

Some people buy comfort food. I buy comfort tech toys. It keeps me slim, but my wallet takes the punishment instead. :D

Its all about the comfort tech toys! They just have to hurry up and finish inventing the stuff that I really want right now.

Hmm, diplomatic service, I could use some classified information someday... And that diplomatic immunity stuff sounds generally usefull!

I also stay warm enough to comfortably go out in shortsleeves on days like...say, today. :D It's a multi-use stroke of luck.

Comfort books might be cheaper, you know.
